Moab, May 2002
We arrived in Moab shortly after noon on Friday. We unload trucks and check on our hotel reservations. We can't check in 'till after 3pm, so plenty of time left to make a run up Moab Rim. That's a great way to break in the first timers!
But first, we gotta go play a bit on Potato Salad Hill!
Now, everyone is ready, so off to the Rim.
I needed a little extra balance for the line to the right, but Jayson just crawled it again..
Rusty rolled a bead back (inside) so he stopped for a little air from Steve. Check out the view of the Colorado river...
It's a new day, and we are off to Hell's Revenge. Here is the group waiting at the top of Dump Bump as I come down the miniature Lyon's Back entrance.
Get used to it, here is Jayson crawling up Dump Bump.
A little optional hill near the beginning of the trail. There is no real 'optional' obstacles for our group...
We were waiting our turn for lunch on the overlook, so we played on the near by Gates of Hell and Devil's Staircase.
Here's the guys going down Gates of Hell.
Then coming up the Devil's Staircase.
Greg playing on a cool little slick rock spot on down the trail.
This was Robbie's turn to evacuate a tire. Couldn't you have picked a more stable spot??
Now we have made it to
Mickey's Hot Tub,
Here is Danny headed out.
And my turn. Well, my first couple attempts resulted in a nice wheel stand, so we pulled out the strap and I got a little helping hand from the guys. Amazing how much it helps when your front tires are touching the rocks....
Oh, and here is Jayson stopping half way out just to look around.
Everyone loves the decent
off the top. Don't they Kathy?
Kathy, are you watching this????
Ok, Moab is not a good place to learn you have a fear of heights..
Here's the group gathering back up as a couple of us inspect the marks left behind from someone who took a wrong turn coming down that last hill. Some glass, lots of gouges in the rock and slide marks all the way to the bottom. Now that would have been a BAD ride...
One more big obstacle left, the Escalator. Three trucks went in, three truck WINCH out.. Hmm, not real good odds here, but some spectacular pics! We never could find the right line past the hole at the bottom of the second waterfall. I guess it'll have to wait till next year...
The saying for this obstacle was "Got Oil Pressure?"
Well that's it for Day 1. A little rest tonight since we'll be headed to Pritchett tomorrow!
