Gone West, June 2003

I took quite a few scenic pictures this year, so I've also included a separate page for those. Enjoy....

It would not be a trip west
without stopping at Clines. But, just be warned. It's a bad place to get fuel
($$$$)..

Ahhhh, we've finally arrived
at Farmington, New Mexico. Despite the late schedule, weather is pretty nice.
Low 90's, with a small shower that seemed to come back every evening.

Here Dave gets a feel for
some of the area climbs.

This has got to be some of
the strangest rock I've seen. Mostly sandstone, but it's mixed with lots of larger
rocks. Huge traction (as long as it's dry!)...

Yep, lots of vertical to be
found around last year's Super Crawl course.

Some of the local wild life
came out to check on us... Any place to find some shade.

This is our first true trail
to run. Called Waterfall, it has some great climbs and obstacles along the way.

First carnage for me.
Just as I got good and vertical, the right front spring retainer plate popped
off. Guess the nut vibrated off somewhere. It was a quick fix after a little
tug to get up on top.

There are some really
cool climbs along this trail.

This spot was technical
enough to give Dave's hydraulics a work out!

My climb was mostly
uneventful. Well, with the exception of the last part. Moved a little too far
to the right and got a nice view of the sky! A slight adjustment in my line, and I
joined everyone else at the top...

Oh man, what a view from up
here....

Here's another spot that has
been used for previous competitions. Really tough area, but Steve wanted to give it
a try. The wedge got a little too tight up top, and rather than blowup the on the
first good day, Steve took a tug from Dave and we moved on.

No real plan to the
Farmington adventure, so we did a little exploring in the area. Lots of challenges
to be found all over.

After running up several
washes in the area, we found a spot that stopped even Steve's beast! No way it's
gonna fit thru there... :)

Well that's it for Farmington. Now it's time to move on to Moab.....
